Top 100 Punk Songs Of All Time. As one of the genres leading authorities Sounds Magazine released an All-Time Punk Top 100 list in 1981. It spent a phenomenal 23 weeks at the top of the rock songs chart. To put things into perspective in 1981 the sadly defunct Sounds magazine compiled a list of the top 100 punk songs as voters by their readers and even then there were some glaring omissions. The term pop punk is often co-opted and repackaged as power pop or some variation therein yet the core concept is simple melodic songs packaged with a punk slant.
